Happy Birthday to my Bubba!! He just turned 7 years old!! For every birthday I let the kids choose what they want me to make for their special birthday dinner. He chose Hootenanny! Have you heard of it before? It's so good!! It's like a combination of pancakes and french toast. It rises in the oven and looks like this:
If you'd like the recipe go check it out at here: Hootennany Comment below if you have tried or when you do make it!! Top it with some syrup and it's SO good!!
Let me ask you a quick question. Have you ever seen the TV show, The Middle? It is SUCH a great show about a family and the obstacles and struggles they have as they go through life. They live paycheck to paycheck . Their dishwasher is held together with duct tape. Brick, the youngest son has a "tick" where he speaks to himself and also has to sit at the dinner table in a lawn chair because the family doesn't have another chair for him. Sue, the daughter, is a nerd who is ALWAYS happy and overly cheery! Axle, the oldest brother is someone who drinks out of the milk carton, and walks around in his boxers all day. It's a really funny show. We feel that we can relate to that show in so many ways!! We even dressed up like them for Halloween!! Ben was the Dad and I was the Mom obviously. Then in the pictures it goes "Sue", "Carly" and "Brick" characters.
Here is an example of what we mean when we say, "We 'middled it'. "
I was putting candles in this Hootenanny that was fresh out of the hot oven. Well, it started to melt the candles and leave wax, or "flavor" as we called it in the meal! Haha! Ben suggested we leave the candles out and just sing, but I was pressed to the fact we NEEDED to sing, "Happy Birthday" with candles IN it!
*Side note* I work weekend overnights and I was trying to balance getting ready for work with celebrating my Bubba's birthday. I needed those candles. Bubbadidn't need the candles in there. I needed the candles in there.
So, we RE stuck the candles in different spots and quickly moved it to the table to sing Happy Birthday! You can see in the pictures how short the candles are and how much they melted!! After we were done singing, my 9 year old daughter shot her hand up in the air and staked her claim, "I get the piece with no candle wax!!"
Happy Birthday Bubba!!! It's just extra flavor!! <3 <3
